Hiring a contractor is a major decision. One wants to be confident in one's choice of companies to upheave what is, for most people, their biggest investment. My choice is Unique Construction.
What I first noticed about Unique Construction was the condition of the equipment at the office. That's 2 major differences Unique has over many home improvement contractors I've encountered. This is not some guy with a pickup truck. They are equipped to handle the job with their own vehicles and facilities, in good condition, with matching paint and logos (details that speak to legitimacy). The office/facility manager is gracious and helpful, while also professional, competent, and efficient.
The day of my job estimate, the representative from Unique was on time for the appointment, knowledgeable, offered (but did not push) helpful advice on my job, and said he would email me an estimate that day- which he did! This shouldn't be note-worthy, but this was the first company of the several that I contacted who achieved these tasks efficiently (and, in some cases, not at all). My estimate was detailed and itemized, which gave me confidence that these folks are not going to be taken by surprise by much involving my job.
The work was begun on time, progress was swift, quality of the job was very good, and the inherent mess was kept to the minimum possible (one must be realistic; construction is messy). All of the workers I encountered that represented Unique on this job were courteous, skilled, and professional. The permits for the township were satisfied on the inspectors' first visit and they even asked what company did the work, since they were impressed with the quality.
This experience was approximately 10 years ago, and the first of 6 major jobs Unique has completed handily on my home or members of my family's. The work is consistently of a high standard, the employees represent the company very well, and the job is completed as promised. I trust them enough to give them keys to my house to do work when I can't be home. They may or may not give you the cheapest estimate for a job, but you can be confident that you'll get what you've paid for. I won't hire any other.
